Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi

   The Island University

A. The extent to which the agency has met the percentage goal it established for reducing its usage of electricity, gasoline and natural gas:

Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi is committed to energy conservation. TAMUCC has shown positive reductions in energy consumption by equipping new facilities with state of the art systems that make the buildings more energy efficient.  Additionally, TAMUCC has embarked on an aggressive heating and cooling scheduling program to allow the HVAC systems to turn off when buildings are not in use.

Utility consumption building profiles are generated and reviewed weekly to insure buildings are operating as designed.  And, monthly campus utility consumption and costs are reviewed to insure energy conservation initiatives are obtaining expected results. Energy conservation initiatives have reduced the campus source Energy Use Index (EUI) from 148.9 mBtu per square foot in April, 2014 to 143.4 mBtu per square foot in August, 2016 for a 3.7% reduction in energy usage per square foot.

B. The steps the agency may take to increase the percentage goal for reducing its usage of electricity, gasoline, and natural gas:

Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi is very aggressive in implementing programs that lead to energy reduction.  TAMUCC has entered into an energy performance contract with Ameresco.  The $7.1 million contract is expected to reduce energy costs by over $440,000 annually.

C. Any additional ideas the agency has for reducing energy expenditures related to facilities:

Future building construction at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi will have a primary goal of energy efficiency throughout planning and construction. Additionally, a new contract with the electrical provider going into effect in September, 2017 is expected to lower base line electrical costs by 22%.

D. Any additional ideas the agency has to minimize fuel usage in all vehicles and equipment used by the agency:

Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi is comprised of three campuses. The main campus limits vehicular usage by promoting a pedestrian campus. Additionally, staff are encouraged to limit vehicle usage and carpool where appropriate.
